Sound Bath Meditations are a combination of restorative yoga, meditation and a sacred sound concert. “They are deeply-immersive, full-body listening experiences that intentionally use sound to invite gentle yet powerful therapeutic and restorative processes to nurture your mind and body. (Auster, 2020).” The experience begins by lying down (think Savasana), often with a blanket and an eye pillow. After a few moments of breathing and balancing with tuning forks, the remainder of the experience is filled with different sounds and frequencies introduced therapeutically in succession. The sounds are created by a variety of overtone-emitting instruments including Himalayan singing bowls, gongs, harmonium, crystal singing bowl, chimes, rain-sticks, rattles, shakers and the human voice. The sounds introduced during a Sound Bath are an invitation into a deeper state of consciousness, an opportunity to unplug from external stimuli and to gain perspective on what’s going on within you. The goal of the experience is to invite deep rest and relaxation, enhance creativity , reduce stress/anxiety, help with insomnia and explore self-inquiry and self-discovery. Bring a MAT, eye pillow, some water and a friend.
Please note: Sound therapy may not suitable for people with severe or clinical mental health problems, epilepsy or between 1-12 weeks pregnant. If you are unsure, please seek professional medical advice.
